Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has a long chat and a bit of a heated discussion with journalists during an urgent press conference.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez recently shocked fans with a bold announcement about new club elections, all while expressing his frustration with the media during an emergency board meeting.
Even though Real Madrid is one of the world’s most successful football clubs, things haven’t been easy lately. For the second year in a row, they finished the season without winning any trophies, raising questions about manager Alvaro Arbeloa’s future—especially since he only took over from Xabi Alonso four months ago.
There have also been reports of tension on the training ground, including a recent fight between players that ended with Federico Valverde needing hospital treatment for a head injury after an incident with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.
With everything going on, Perez surprised everyone by calling an urgent press conference right after the board meeting to answer questions from the media. Since Perez rarely speaks publicly, fans started worrying he might be stepping down.
But in a passionate speech, the 79-year-old made it clear he isn’t going anywhere. He announced that club elections will be held three years earlier than planned and confirmed he and the current board will run again.
Perez said, “I’m not going to resign. I’ve asked to start the election process. There’s been a lot of unfair attacks on me personally. People ask, ‘Where is Florentino?’ But I’ve been here all along. Some rumors say I’m sick or tired, but my health is perfect.”
He went on, “I’m the first to want to win everything. Remember, we’ve won 37 football titles and 26 in basketball. I’m running to defend Real Madrid—not because of some journalists trying to scare me.”
Perez also criticized certain media outlets, saying, “Some journalists try to cause trouble for Real Madrid. One even writes without really knowing football.” His comments led to some tense moments and heated exchanges with reporters during the conference.
Overall, Perez made one thing very clear: he’s working hard every day for Real Madrid, and he’s here to stay.
