Real Madrid star changes mind about transfer after Liverpool shows interest

Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga seems to have changed his mind about leaving the club this summer after Liverpool showed interest in signing him.

The 23-year-old has often been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, especially since Jose Mourinho came back as Real Madrid’s head coach. Last month, reports said Camavinga was ready to leave and was looking for a new team, with the Premier League as his top choice. It was said he could be available for about £50 million, and several clubs were interested.

Liverpool stepped up their interest last week when they reached out to Real Madrid about a possible deal. Camavinga was initially open to leaving Spain, and Manchester United was also reportedly interested as they work on rebuilding their midfield under Michael Carrick.

With all the talk, a move to Liverpool seemed quite possible. But now, new reports suggest that Camavinga has decided he wants to stay and fight for his place at Real Madrid. According to Mundo Deportivo, even though Liverpool is still keen, Camavinga has told his agents not to consider any offers. He’s focused on impressing Mourinho and staying with the team.

Last season, Camavinga played 43 games in all competitions. He had a tough ending after coming on as a sub in Real Madrid’s Champions League exit to Bayern Munich, where he got two quick yellow cards and was sent off in the final minutes. Normally a central midfielder, he also played at left-back and on the left wing, showing his flexibility on the pitch.

Even though Camavinga wants to stay, his future might depend on Mourinho’s plans. The coach could decide to sell him to help fund a move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, who is reportedly Mourinho’s top target. Either Camavinga or teammate Aurelien Tchouameni could be sold to make room for Fernandez. So while Camavinga hopes to stay, Real Madrid’s transfer decisions will be important.

Camavinga might get plenty of playing time in pre-season since he wasn’t picked for the France squad at the 2026 World Cup. His absence was one of the biggest surprises, especially after playing in the World Cup final four years ago. It’s believed this disappointment at the international level partly influenced his initial wish to find a new club this summer.
