Roger Federer and Andy Murray are making a surprise comeback in a special one-time tennis event!
Roger Federer and Andy Murray, two of tennis’s biggest stars, are making a special comeback for a one-time event this December. Together, they’ve won 23 Grand Slam titles—Federer with 20 and Murray with 3.
Federer retired from professional tennis in September 2022, and Murray followed in August 2024 after the Paris Olympics. Another close friend from the tennis world, Stan Wawrinka, has announced that 2026 will be his final year playing professionally.
Wawrinka recently got a wildcard entry to Wimbledon, giving him a chance to add to his three Grand Slam wins. After Wimbledon, he plans to play occasionally until the end of 2026. To celebrate his amazing career, he’s organizing a special farewell match with Federer, Murray, and Gael Monfils.
This fun exhibition will take place on December 19, 2026, at Palexpo in Geneva. It might be a doubles or a rotating singles match—details are still being worked out. In a video on Instagram, Wawrinka said: “Hello everyone, as you know, 2026 is my last year after more than 20 years on the tour. It’s time to close this chapter. I’ve been lucky to share so many great moments thanks to tennis—and thanks to you. Before I go, I want to throw one last big party to say thank you and goodbye. I’m thrilled my friends Andy Murray, Gael Monfils, and Roger Federer will join me. I want to make this truly special so we can all enjoy it together. See you on December 19, 2026, at Palexpo in Geneva!”
