Roy Keane strongly criticizes Bruno Fernandes for what he said in the interview after the Nottingham Forest game.

Roy Keane wasn’t too happy with Bruno Fernandes’ attitude after hearing what the Manchester United captain said following Sunday’s big game against Nottingham Forest.
It was a special day for Fernandes, who matched the Premier League record for most assists in a season by setting up Bryan Mbuemo for his 20th assist of the 2025-26 season. The 31-year-old created eight chances in total that day, more than anyone else, as he tried to catch up with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne in the assists race.
After the match, Fernandes talked about the record. “I got to 20 today, let’s see, we have one more game,” he said. “It’s the highest I’ve done in the Premier League, so I’m very happy.” He added, “It’s a proud moment, especially with names like Thierry and Kevin involved. I’m grateful and happy to reach it.”
Many fans were happy for Fernandes, especially since he was recently named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. But Roy Keane didn’t like how people were celebrating the record after the game at Old Trafford.
On the latest episode of The Overlap, an upset Keane reacted to Gary Neville praising Fernandes for the achievement. Neville called it a “massive achievement” and said, “Do we need to give him huge plaudits for matching Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne?”
Keane said he was “raging” about the whole discussion. He even said he felt “cringing” watching how the United players celebrated Mbuemo’s goal that made it 3-1.
“What I heard at United that weekend made me very angry,” Keane said. “All the talk about his assists and the players focusing on that.”
He also questioned Fernandes’ mindset. “I saw the post-match interview, and it seemed like the game was all about his assists. The captain said, ‘Yeah, I probably should have shot a few times but I made those passes.’ How can a player be thinking about personal records in the middle of a team game? Those stats will come naturally if you play well, but making it the main focus of a big team performance? I was cringing.”
Keane added, “When he got the assist, all the players were going to him. What about the guy who scored the goal?”
Even after Neville mentioned Fernandes’ goal to win trophies at United, Keane stuck to his point about attitude. “He won’t be winning trophies with that mindset. The team gave up two goals, and everyone was just excited about the assist record. It’s mind-boggling. It’s like a circus.”
