Sky Sports says sorry after Rayan Cherki makes a naughty comment live on air
Sky Sports had to step in after Rayan Cherki made a surprising comment during his post-match interview following Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Cherki was named Player of the Match after scoring twice and helping keep Enzo Maresca’s perfect record as City’s new manager.
Right after the game, Cherki was interviewed on the pitch at Selhurst Park alongside his teammate Erling Haaland, who also scored twice.
Even though Cherki played a big part in the win, he wasn’t too happy with how he played. In the interview with Sky, the former Lyon player called his performance “s***,” which made the presenter apologize for his language.
“We played well. New manager and all that, but most of us have played together before. We have to trust the system,” Haaland said.
Cherki added, “I played so s***.”
“In the first half, we didn’t find the space. I need to show them I want to play and score,” he said. “Next time, I want to pass the ball more.”
About his solo goal, Cherki said: “I’m very happy with the win. See you next week. Pep [Guardiola] was a big story before, now we start a new one. We want to prove ourselves.”
Fans found his honesty funny on social media. One said, “Cherki said he ‘played like s***’ in the first half during the interview.”
Another wrote, “The Sky presenter apologized just in case anyone was offended by Cherki saying ‘s***’ at 10 p.m., and Haaland laughed and said, ‘I don’t think anyone was!’”
A third fan noted, “I wondered why Cherki seemed a bit down despite scoring two goals. Turns out he thought he could have done better in the first half and even said he played s***. He was upset he couldn’t assist Haaland.”
Someone else said, “Cherki cracked me up in his interview. He said he played ‘s***’ in the first half but really stepped up when the manager might have subbed him off.”
And another added, “Cherki said ‘s***’ live on Sky and yet the interviewer still had to apologize in 2024 if anyone was offended. It’s past 9 p.m. — who cares?”
Manchester City will play their next game at home against Coventry City on September 5.
