Spurs have found a surprise player who could be their next big signing after Savinho and Omar Marmoush.

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a surprise player after finalizing deals for Manchester City stars Savinho and Omar Marmoush, according to reports. Spurs have agreed with City on a deal worth an initial £75 million plus £10 million in bonuses to bring Savinho to London. They’ve been after the 22-year-old Brazilian for most of the summer and are now close to signing his teammate Marmoush as well.
The Athletic says Spurs are making good progress in talks for Marmoush, which will be a separate deal from Savinho’s. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is shaking up the squad and has already spent over £225 million before these latest signings. Fans have been waiting since July 6, when Sandro Tonali joined from Newcastle for a club-record £100 million, but the wait might pay off soon.
But Spurs are not stopping there. Football Insider reports that De Zerbi wants to boost his attack further and has set his sights on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The French forward has scored double figures in the Premier League for the last three seasons and earned a spot in France’s World Cup squad, where he played a few minutes as they reached the semis before losing to Spain.
Mateta nearly moved to AC Milan in January, but the transfer was canceled after a medical found a long-standing knee problem dating back to 2019 when he injured his meniscus playing for Mainz. He had surgery before joining Palace. Mateta thanked Milan’s medical team for discovering the issue, saying it was worse than he realized.
Because of his injury history, signing Mateta might be a bit risky for Spurs, especially since their current strikers Dominic Solanke and Richarlison have had injury troubles. However, Mateta came back in March to help Palace win the Conference League and then went to the World Cup. He hasn’t played in preseason yet, but Palace’s new manager Pierre Sage is confident he’ll be ready for their first Premier League game against Everton on Saturday.
Spurs, who start their season at Brentford on Saturday, are also interested in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo. It’s not clear if their moves for Savinho, Marmoush, and Mateta will affect that pursuit.
