Tyson Fury says his fight with Anthony Joshua is not happening and reveals who he will fight next.
Tyson Fury has surprised everyone by saying that his much-anticipated fight with Anthony Joshua is off, just days after promoter Eddie Hearn said they were running out of time to make a deal. Fury, who calls himself the ‘Gypsy King,’ has been open about his frustration with the uncertainty around the fight.
It seemed like Fury and Joshua were finally going to face each other, but a disagreement over where the fight would take place has caused problems. Saudi organizers want to hold the event in the United States, while Joshua and his team want it in the UK, a point they say was part of their contract.
Last week, Fury called Joshua a “coward” and said he is “conning everybody” as talks went on. Then, on Sunday night, Fury took to Instagram to say the fight isn’t happening and suggested a trilogy fight with Oleksandr Usyk instead. Usyk recently gave up his WBC, WBA, and IBF titles.
Fury said, “It looks like AJ has backed out again after 11 years, so now I’m looking to fight Usyk.” He challenged Usyk to a rematch, saying, “You fought me twice already and know how tough it is. Let’s do it again in November. The choice is yours – do you want to fight me in 2026 or not?”
As mentioned, the location has been a big issue. Fury and his promoter, Frank Warren, were okay with having the fight outside the UK because Saudi supporters suggested Madison Square Garden in New York. But Eddie Hearn wasn’t happy with that and said no – until Friday (September 4), when he shared some good news.
Hearn posted on Instagram: “Thanks for all the amazing support! We’ve heard you, and talks have reopened for Wembley. Let’s make history with one of the biggest sporting events Britain has ever seen.”
