Wayne Rooney cracks a funny promise before Brazil vs Norway game
Brazil and Norway are about to face each other in the World Cup round of 16, and Wayne Rooney has made a funny promise about the match. Norway made history by winning their first knockout game at the World Cup, beating Ivory Coast 2-1. Brazil also won 2-1 against Japan to set up this exciting clash.
Brazil is the favorite, but Norway has some strong players who could give them a challenge. Erling Haaland showed his skill again by scoring the winning goal against Ivory Coast. Still, Rooney doesn’t think Norway will make it to the quarter-finals because Brazil is such a strong team with a great reputation.
Brazil’s team, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, has improved throughout the tournament. After a draw with Morocco, they confidently beat Haiti, Scotland, and then a tough Japanese team. Talking to the BBC, Rooney joked, “If Norway get to the quarter-finals, I’ll go to the River Mersey and row down it.”
Rooney said this after Gabby Logan mentioned that if Norway beats Brazil, they might face England in the quarter-finals. For that to happen, England would need to beat the Democratic Republic of Congo and then win against either Mexico or Ecuador in the next round.
Interestingly, Rooney might not know that Norway has a good track record against Brazil. Norway has never lost to Brazil before. They actually won their only competitive match in the 1998 World Cup 2-1 and beat them 4-2 in a friendly in 1997. Their first ever game was a draw in 1988, and their latest match in 2006 also ended in a draw.
