Piers Morgan speaks out strongly about Mark Goldbridge after Lisandro Martinez’s surprising interview

Piers Morgan has taken a swipe at Mark Goldbridge on social media after Goldbridge shared his thoughts on Lisandro Martinez’s fiery post-match interview.

After Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, defender Martinez didn’t hold back. He openly criticized the club’s leadership in a post-match interview, which sparked a big debate among fans.

Mark Goldbridge, a well-known United supporter, was quick to back Martinez and praised him for speaking out. However, Morgan wasn’t impressed. He went online to challenge some of Goldbridge’s points.

Not long after the match, Martinez told the media he was frustrated with the club’s transfer strategy and called on the board—especially technical director Jason Wilcox—to do better.

“I have to control myself a lot. Sometimes it’s a reflection in the mirror of our club at this moment,” Martinez said. “We had a great season last year, and I expect more from the top. Other teams bring in many players. I expect more from our technical director, and we players also have to do more.”

While some fans and experts felt Martinez’s comments were disrespectful to the club and his teammates, Goldbridge saw it differently. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to show support for the defender.

“Lisandro Martinez, build him a statue. Finally, a player calling out the board and owners. The rest of the team should stand with him right away,” Goldbridge wrote.

But Morgan, a big Cristiano Ronaldo fan, reminded Goldbridge of the famous interview he did with Ronaldo in 2022, where the star striker also expressed feeling “betrayed” by the club and criticized then-manager Erik ten Hag.

“Hmm… actually, Cristiano did it first, in my 2022 interview with him,” Morgan tweeted. “You didn’t say he deserved a statue—you called it ‘very sad,’ a ‘bad bad mistake,’ and ‘pretty vulgar clickbait.’”

That interview led to Ronaldo’s dramatic exit from United, with the club announcing his departure just five days later. In it, Ronaldo also criticized the board and said he didn’t respect Ten Hag because the feeling wasn’t mutual.

Goldbridge responded during a live YouTube stream, explaining his issue wasn’t with Ronaldo’s comments, but how the interview was done.

“Yeah, that’s because he sat down with you!” Goldbridge said to Morgan. “If I wanted to make a big statement, I’d do it right after a big Champions League match on Amazon Prime to a football audience—not with a guy who interviews Shane Richie. Ronaldo had already left the club and looked bitter. Martinez is still here, still fighting to win.”

Morgan fired back with a cheeky jab: “Jealousy is a terrible thing, Mr. Goldbridge!” He also shared clips from his Ronaldo interview, saying he admired Ronaldo for always telling the truth, no matter what.

The conversation around Martinez’s explosive interview continues to spark strong opinions among fans and experts alike.
