Jamal Musiala has opened up after collapsing for the second time in just three days while playing for Bayern Munich.

Musiala, who played for Germany in the World Cup, had to come off in a friendly match against RB Leipzig after fainting. His teammate Ismael Saibari caught him to stop him from falling, and Joshua Kimmich quickly came to help. Medics were there right away, and Musiala was helped off the field. He went back to training, but then another scary moment happened on Tuesday during a 4-2 win against FC Heidenheim. Just minutes after coming on, Musiala fell again, and players from both teams formed a protective circle around him. He then walked off the pitch with one of the team doctors.

After the game, Bayern’s chief Max Eberl told the media that Musiala “will speak about this soon” and that the club is “keeping a close eye on the situation.” Musiala quickly shared a message saying he’s been diagnosed with “brief, temporary episodes of absence” but assured fans he’s doing well and will keep playing football.

He explained that these episodes are “easy to treat” and caused by a neurological issue. On Instagram, he wrote: “First things first – I’m doing well! I’m so grateful for all your messages and support! I know many are worried, so I want to explain. I’ve been diagnosed with brief, temporary episodes of absence caused by a neurological dysfunction. These explain what happened recently in Leipzig and Heidenheim. They might look scary, but for me, they’re just part of my daily life right now. I’m getting the best medical care and feeling very hopeful. Bayern and my close friends are supporting me all the way.

“The important thing is there’s no extra health risk. After talking with the specialists, I decided to face this challenge and keep doing what helps me recover: living my life and playing football, which I love. I take full responsibility for this choice.

“Overall, I’m feeling good and on the right path. What helps most is chasing wins and titles with my team and your amazing support. I hope this helps you understand me better. At the same time, I ask for privacy and want to keep this between my close friends, the club, and the doctors. Thank you so much.”

Teammates like Manuel Neuer, Luis Diaz, Jonathan Tah, and Konrad Laimer responded with lots of kind messages on social media.

Musiala could have played for England since he grew up there and spent time in Southampton and Chelsea youth teams before joining Bayern. At 23, he’s played 231 games, scored 69 goals, and won six Bundesliga titles.

He missed much of the 2025/26 season after breaking a fibula and dislocating and fracturing his ankle in a Club World Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain last July. He returned in April after surgery and recovery.
