Barcelona fans all seem to agree about Anthony Gordon after they saw Lamine Yamal’s great game against Levante.
Barcelona picked up a 4-2 win over Levante, keeping their perfect start to La Liga with five wins from five games. Hansi Flick’s team sits top of the league, three points ahead of their closest rivals Real Madrid, who have already lost one game. It looks like these two clubs are set for a tough battle for the La Liga title.
There’s also some English interest at Barcelona this season. Anthony Gordon joined the club and played against Levante, following Marcus Rashford, who spent last year at Camp Nou. Gordon started the match, hoping to build on his strong start at Barcelona. But fans noticed something during the game when young star Lamine Yamal took a penalty instead of passing it to Gordon.
Barcelona got off to a fast start, with Xavi Espart scoring in just five minutes. Yamal then doubled the lead before the 20th minute with his first goal of the match. The team controlled the game well in the first half, and right after halftime, Yamal scored a penalty to make it 3-0. However, some fans were upset because they thought Yamal should have let Gordon take the penalty to help him get his first goal for the club.
On social media, fans shared their feelings: “Why couldn’t they give the penalty to Anthony Gordon? He needs a goal to boost his confidence. Lamine is just too selfish.” Another said: “Anthony Gordon should have taken that penalty.” And one more added: “Lamine Yamal is very greedy. Gordon hasn’t scored yet and should have had the chance.”
After that, Barcelona struggled a bit and let Levante score twice late in the game to make it 3-2. Luckily, Karim Adeyemi scored an amazing solo goal in stoppage time to seal the win. Fans really want Gordon to score soon but are also keeping it lighthearted about his goal drought because he’s been playing well overall. Some joked, “Xavi Espart scored before Anthony Gordon? Haha, he better start scoring in the tough games against PSG and Madrid.” Another said, “Gordon’s goal will probably come at the end of the world—it’s hard to believe!”
Gordon joined Barcelona this summer from Newcastle United and has played six games so far. While he hasn’t scored yet, he’s already made four assists. He helped the team with two assists in his debut during a 5-0 win over Elche, added two more assists against Rayo Vallecano, and another in a 5-0 win over Valencia. Gordon isn’t worried about scoring yet—he knows that if he keeps playing like this, the goals will come.
