Kate Scott sharply criticizes Micah Richards with strong comments about Man City on CBS Sports.

Kate Scott didn’t hold back when she introduced Micah Richards for the first CBS Sports Champions League show since Manchester City’s guilty verdict. After a three-week international break, European football was back with the second round of Champions League games starting across Europe on Tuesday night.

As usual, the friendly CBS panel—Scott, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Richards—were ready to cover the action. But right at the start, Scott decided to joke about City’s 115 charges instead of giving Richards an easy welcome.

Before every show, Scott introduces the panel, sharing their achievements and often playfully teasing Richards. Since Tuesday was the first Champions League night after Man City’s recent guilty verdict, Scott had to mention it.

After praising Henry and Carragher, she turned to Richards and said, “Well, this is awkward, isn’t it? He already has fewer trophies than anyone else here… For now, he’s still a Premier League winner and an FA Cup winner—until he has to mail those medals back to someone at Stoke or Manchester United. What’ll he tell the ladies then?”

Richards just looked down at his notes and took it in good humor, while Henry quietly said, “Wow.” Carragher, who’s been one of the most outspoken critics of City since the verdict, couldn’t stop laughing and even clapped at Scott’s joke.

Scott’s comments were all in good fun, and Richards seemed to take them that way. But there’s some truth to the joke. The Premier League found City broke rules over nine years, from 2009 to 2018. During that time, City won three Premier League titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup, and the 2012 Community Shield.

Since the verdict, it’s been suggested City might have to give back the trophies they won during those years. Richards was part of the Man City squad for four of those trophies: the 2010/11 FA Cup, the 2011/12 and 2013/14 Premier League titles, and the 2013/14 League Cup.

Although he didn’t get a medal for the 2013/14 Premier League title because he only played two games, he could lose the others if City have to give up the trophies. Still, it’s more likely players will keep their medals while only the club gets punished.

Of course, this all depends on the final outcome of City’s ongoing appeal.
