Real Madrid’s honest thoughts on Kylian Mbappe’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or come to light
The big moment is almost here! Voting for the Ballon d’Or is done, and football fans everywhere will find out who takes home the famous trophy on Monday night.
Kylian Mbappe is one of the top picks to win, along with Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Real Madrid has also shared how they feel about Mbappe’s chances.
Recently, Mbappe has said he’s confident he deserves to win. The French star even admitted he would vote for himself if he could. He’s had a great year playing for both France and Real Madrid. At the World Cup this summer, he was the top scorer with 10 goals and scored 42 times in 44 games overall.
One thing that might hurt his chances is that he didn’t win any trophies with Real Madrid or France last season.
An ESPN reporter shared that Real Madrid is feeling optimistic about Mbappe winning the award.
Also, club president Florentino Perez won’t be at the El Clásico game, likely due to the recent Negreira case news. But he will be at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.
Real Madrid plans to send a big group to the ceremony on Monday, which will end the boycott they started in 2024. They skipped the event that year after Vinicius Junior wasn’t chosen—the prize went to Rodri for his role in Manchester City’s treble and at the European Championships.
Madrid also missed the 2025 ceremony when Ousmane Dembele won, possibly because none of their players were strong contenders after a tough season.
