Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has a new chance to get back into football with Getafe. The La Liga club is offering him a deal paying £10,000 a week until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Sancho used to earn around £250,000 a week while playing at Old Trafford. Since his contract with United ended in June, he has been a free agent. To stay fit, the 26-year-old has been training with non-league club Flixton FC. He’s been linked to several teams, including his old club Borussia Dortmund.

Recently, cash-strapped Getafe offered Sancho a contract, willing to pay him €400,000 (£335,000) in wages until June, according to The Telegraph. It’s said that Sancho is interested in the idea of playing in La Liga and sees this as a good way to restart his career. Before deciding, he wants to meet Getafe’s head coach, Jose Bordalas.

Getafe’s president, Angel Torres, shared some thoughts about signing Sancho on Spanish radio: “I’ve been working on this for four months. He’s a free agent now, and we made him a final offer. He’s played for Manchester United and Aston Villa, so he’s no stranger to big clubs. I know he has offers from Qatar and other places.” Torres added, “We have to be patient, not rush him, and let him make his own choice.”

Sancho was left out of United’s first team by Erik ten Hag after a public disagreement about his training. He spent the second half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Borussia Dortmund before going back to United. Ten Hag said they had cleared the air after their falling out, but Sancho was then loaned to Chelsea on transfer deadline day. Ten Hag was later sacked in October 2024.

In an interview with The Athletic, Ten Hag talked about how Sancho’s surprising request led to the signing of Antony from Ajax. Sancho told him he’d rather play on the left side, not the right, which created some challenges. Ten Hag said, “That was weird because Sancho often played on the right before. But he said he felt more comfortable on the left. So, we had a problem and it came late.”

He added, “When signing players, I look at performance and what the team needs, not emotions or past feelings. I try to be very professional.”
