Bayern Munich shares a new update on Vincent Kompany’s health after he collapsed during training.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, gave an update on head coach Vincent Kompany after he collapsed at the club’s training ground on Friday, October 23.
Kompany was watching the FC Bayern reserve team practice when he suddenly collapsed and was taken to the hospital. The club quickly shared this statement: “Vincent Kompany needed medical help after collapsing during the amateurs’ training. He was watching the second team’s session. He’ll have a full check-up at the hospital and stay under care. Meanwhile, his coaching team will handle training and matches.”
The next day, October 24, there was some good news. Max Eberl said Kompany is “stable” but will stay in hospital for a few more days. He added, “I spoke with him and his wife last night. It was a tough moment for all of us. He collapsed on the pitch and will be in hospital until everything is checked. This reminds us all that health comes first — not football. We’re all sending him our best wishes. FC Bayern stands together. The most important thing is to find out what caused this and help him recover peacefully.”
Eberl stressed that Kompany will only return when he’s fully fit. “Some test results are in, but more are needed to understand the cause and recovery time. He’s in the best hands, and all we can do now is support him with care and positivity.”
Eberl also mentioned that Bayern thought about asking the league to delay their game against Freiburg on Sunday, October 25, but said it’s best for Kompany to be “playing and winning.”
Talking about the young players who witnessed the event, Eberl said, “It was shocking for the 17- and 18-year-olds training nearby — many haven’t faced tough moments like this before. They were understandably shaken. Thanks to Vilzing and the Bavarian Football Association for quickly offering to postpone the match. Football isn’t everything — health and well-being come first. FC Bayern is about looking out for each other.”
Finally, Eberl made it clear Kompany has all the time he needs to recover, with no rush to return. “We’ll find out what’s wrong and then focus on the recovery — which could take weeks. We’re all prepared for that. Our coaching staff is fantastic, led by Vinnie. We’re not thinking about changing anything. Everyone here is amazing, and we’ll move forward together in Vinnie’s spirit.”
Before this, Kompany had been dealing with a viral infection but still coached during Bayern’s 6-1 win over RB Leipzig last weekend and their 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League earlier this week.
