Ivan Toney has caught everyone’s attention after using a unique but effective penalty style during Al Ahli’s win over Al Khaleej. The 30-year-old former Brentford striker, who has scored 13 goals in nine Saudi Pro League games this season, netted two goals for Marino Pusic’s team as they comfortably beat Al Khaleej in Jeddah.

It was a special night for the England international. Besides scoring the first goal, Toney also scored a penalty in the last seconds of the match to make it 4-1.

Toney is known for a “no-look” penalty method where he looks at the goalkeeper, not the ball, while running up. But on Friday, he changed things up. Staying with his short run-up, he surprised everyone by taking the penalty almost immediately after the referee blew the whistle.

After stepping back twice, he rushed forward quickly and powered the ball into the bottom left corner, leaving the goalkeeper Marwan Al-Haidari frozen in the middle.

Fans quickly shared their thoughts, with one saying, “Ivan Toney’s penalty technique is the weirdest I’ve ever seen.” Another wrote, “The keeper was so sure, and then…” A third added, “Even the cameraman looked surprised by Toney’s move.” Others praised him, saying, “He deserves to be counted among the best penalty takers ever” and “The goalkeeper never saw it coming.”

You can watch Toney’s penalty around the 8:50 mark in the video below.

Last year, Toney spoke about the Saudi Pro League and where he thinks Al Ahli would finish if they played in the Premier League.

The striker, who moved to Al Ahli for £40 million from Brentford in summer 2024, believes his team could challenge for a top-four spot in England’s top league.

“Ronaldo has played all over and probably knows more than me since I’ve only played in the Premier League, Championship, and lower leagues,” Toney told The Guardian.

“For me, the Pro League is just as good as the Premier League. If Al Ahli played in the Premier League, we’d do well and be close to the top four.”

He added, “It’s a strong league, and people shouldn’t look down on it. We saw Al Hilal beat Manchester City, which says a lot.”
