Harry Kane has a surprising idea for his Ballon d’Or trophy just a week after winning it.
Harry Kane just won the Ballon d’Or by a narrow 28 points over Kylian Mbappe. Only nine days after an emotional night in London’s Palladium, the Bayern Munich star shared a surprising idea for his trophy.
After an amazing 2025/26 season where he scored 73 goals for club and country, Kane became the first English player to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001. This also ended Bayern’s 45-year wait for a player to win football’s top individual prize, joining legends like Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Right away, Kane said he wants to give gifts to his teammates at Bayern and England to thank them for helping him reach this big milestone. He also revealed where he plans to keep the famous trophy.
When he accepted the award on October 26, many thought Kane, 33, would proudly add it to his trophy shelf—alongside his 12 top goalscorer awards, two European golden boots, and four Premier League Player of the Year honors. But instead of keeping it at home, he wants to place the Ballon d’Or in the Bayern Munich museum.
“I’ll talk to the club about putting the Ballon d’Or in the Bayern Museum. I think it belongs there so fans can see it,” Kane told SportBILD.
He’s not the only one to give the trophy to a museum. Lionel Messi gave all eight of his Ballon d’Ors to Barcelona, including his latest from 2023 when he played for Inter Miami.
Cristiano Ronaldo was recently named the Ballon d’Or of All Time for his 2008 season with Manchester United and Portugal. He also made headlines for auctioning a replica of his 2013 Ballon d’Or in 2017, raising €600,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation.
One of the most interesting stories is about Alfredo Di Stefano. The Real Madrid legend won two Ballon d’Ors in 1957 and 1959 and is the only player to win the Super Ballon d’Or in 1989, which honored the best footballer of the last 30 years. After his death in 2014, his family sold his trophies in 2021—his two Ballon d’Ors sold for £60,800 and £54,400, while the Super Ballon d’Or sold for £187,500.
According to Christian Falk, Kane will get a bonus of more than €1 million (£834,490) for winning the Ballon d’Or. His contract has performance bonuses, including extra pay for being the Bundesliga’s top scorer—which he’s done three times since joining from Tottenham—and for being the Champions League’s top scorer in his first season at Bayern in 2023/24.
On Monday, before Bayern’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, Kane, England’s record scorer, said he’s “extremely close” to signing a new deal at Allianz Arena after months of talks.
“I’d say it’s a matter of days,” Kane said. “There have been good talks over the weekend and today. I keep saying we’re close, but now we really are. Most of the big issues are sorted, and we’re happy. The rest are small details, the kind lawyers have to work out.”
Once everything is signed, Kane will continue at Bayern until 2029, just weeks before his 36th birthday.
