New video of Michael Carrick and Matheus Cunha’s clash comes out after Man Utd star gets red card against Roma

Videos from inside Old Trafford captured Michael Carrick’s surprising reaction to Matheus Cunha’s actions after Manchester United’s amazing win over Roma.

It was an exciting 90 minutes as Manchester United fought back from being 2-0 down just 14 minutes into the game to beat Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

The win ended the club’s long winless run, but not everything was perfect. Star forward Cunha got a red card, which clearly upset head coach Carrick.

Cunha, along with captain Bruno Fernandes—who scored a penalty to make it 2-1—played a big part in the comeback. Cunha’s two goals were what finally sealed the win. His first goal came in the 83rd minute, and then three minutes later, he scored the winning goal. After that, Cunha took off his shirt to celebrate with the home fans.

Of course, taking off his shirt earned him a yellow card. Then, shortly after, he got a second yellow for a late challenge on Leonardo Balerdi and was sent off.

Even after the red card, Cunha stayed to watch the rest of the match and later ran onto the pitch to celebrate with his teammates and the fans. But soon after he started celebrating, a clearly annoyed Carrick came over, grabbed him, and seemed to tell him to leave the pitch right away. Footage shows Cunha walking off looking frustrated while his teammates kept celebrating.

Some fans might think Carrick was punishing Cunha for getting the red card, which means he’ll miss the next Champions League game against Sporting CP on November 25. But it’s more likely Carrick was trying to stop Cunha from getting even more trouble from UEFA for going back onto the field after being sent off.

According to the rules, a player who’s been sent off must leave the area around the field and the technical area. This means Cunha wasn’t allowed to come back on the pitch for celebrations without permission.

So, Carrick may have been looking out for Cunha’s best interest by getting him away from the celebrations, not just angry about the red card. That said, Cunha could still face more punishment for what happened after the red card.
