Liverpool fans are sure that the player who caused the trouble in the Fenerbahce game should never wear the club’s shirt again.
Liverpool fans have been quick to point out one player after their team’s tough 3-2 loss to Fenerbahce in the Champions League. The Reds came into the match with three wins in a row and looked good early on when 19-year-old Trey Nyoni scored a stunning volley, becoming the club’s second-youngest scorer in the competition.
But just four minutes later, Mason Greenwood’s deflected free kick leveled the score. Later, Alexander Isak came off the bench to score what looked like the winner, but Fenerbahce fought back strong. Archie Brown equalized in the 73rd minute and then helped Vedat Muriqi score, handing Liverpool their first European defeat under Iraola.
Iraola’s team struggled throughout the match, with several players having a tough time. Left-back Kostas Tsimikas stood out in a bad way. He started for the third time in the competition, filling in for the rested Milos Kerkez. But after seeing Tsimikas’s shaky performance, Iraola might rethink that choice.
Tsimikas was repeatedly beaten by Greenwood down the left side and even pushed him in the box, barely avoiding a penalty. In his 76 minutes on the field, he didn’t make a single tackle or successful dribble and lost the ball eight times before being replaced by Kerkez. Liverpool fans were clearly unhappy.
One fan said, “Tsimikas is a real problem. He’s only here because we couldn’t sell him.” Another added, “He couldn’t get game time at Roma last season, so it’s surprising he plays regular minutes here. Give me strength.” Some fans even called for him never to play for Liverpool again and wished instead that Andy Robertson was still at the club.
“Tsimikas should never wear the red shirt again. We have to bring in a new left-back in January,” one fan demanded. Another agreed, saying, “Tsimikas and Gomez should never play for Liverpool again. They’re both awful.” Yet another fan wrote, “Keeping Tsimikas over Robertson is just terrible.”
It’s clear Liverpool supporters want changes soon after this disappointing show.
