Football fans say the ‘game is lost’ after seeing what a Man Utd fan did in the Stretford End during Roma’s comeback.
Football fans have shared a clear opinion after a Manchester United supporter was spotted doing something unusual during the team’s big comeback win against Roma.
At first, it looked like another tough night for Michael Carrick and his squad when Roma took a 2-0 lead just 17 minutes into the game at Old Trafford. But Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in the 58th minute, bringing hope back for the home fans.
United gained momentum late in the match, with Matheus Cunha scoring to make it 2-2 after Leonardo Balerdi missed clearing Fernandes’ lifted pass. From there, it was clear who would win, as Shea Lacey’s clever assist helped Cunha score again, securing a vital victory for Carrick’s team.
While most fans were celebrating the fantastic win, one supporter caught attention online for what he was doing during the game, causing some people to say, “Football is done.” A photo from the stadium showed this fan watching Manchester United content creator Mark Goldbridge during the match.
Comments from fans included things like: “Last season, a guy near me was watching him at halftime, and some older fans gave their two cents. He looked pretty uncomfortable.” Another fan said, “That pretty much sums up United fans.” Some asked, “Is this the worst picture ever?” while others said, “That’s so typical of post-Ferguson United.” One went as far as to suggest, “He should have just thrown his phone!” but another kindly said, “It doesn’t ruin anyone’s fun. Let people enjoy what they want.”
Man Utd’s next game is at home against Aston Villa on November 8. Although fans were happy with the win, the first half had some protests, with tennis balls thrown onto the pitch to voice anger at the Glazer family and the club’s current situation. Thousands of green and gold balloons were also shown in the Stretford End before kickoff.
After the match, Fernandes surprised everyone with a heartfelt interview where he supported Carrick’s earlier choice to bench him for the Bournemouth game. He openly talked about how he questioned tactics after a 4-1 loss to Como.
He told Amazon Prime, “We don’t need to save anyone’s job. We’ve all been working hard to get out of this tough spot. There’s been a lot of talk and false stories about what’s happening at the club. Between me and the manager, we cleared the air — nothing serious happened.”
Fernandes continued, “The manager decided to bench me because I wasn’t playing well. People thought it was punishment for what I said. If it was, that’s fair. The manager calls the shots. I have to accept that and move on. It doesn’t change how much I believe in the manager, the staff, or my teammates. It doesn’t change my goal to win every game ahead. This should be a fresh start.”
Amazon’s Gabby Logan later apologized after Fernandes used strong language in the interview.
