Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to the hospital before the big Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool on Sunday afternoon after feeling unwell at Old Trafford just before the game started.

The 84-year-old, who often attends home games, had come to watch the exciting rivalry between the two teams. He was seen with some guests before the match kicked off, but more than an hour before the game began, he felt unwell and was taken to the hospital.

Medics first helped him in the Stretford End tunnel, and then he was moved to an ambulance where he got checked over, according to reports. He was even sitting up in the ambulance, and a source said he was “okay.”

The Daily Mail reported that Ferguson was taken to the hospital just as a safety measure, and the club is hopeful he’ll be feeling better at home soon. There’s no sign this is linked to the brain hemorrhage he had back in 2018.

Ferguson, who led Manchester United to 38 trophies during his amazing 26 years as manager, had emergency surgery after that serious brain bleed. The neurosurgeon who treated him said there was an 80% chance Ferguson might not survive.

Ferguson has said how scared he was when he couldn’t speak or get words out after the hemorrhage. He worried if his memory would return or if he would ever speak again. To recover, he did speech exercises that included remembering every player from his old teams, and his voice came back after about 10 days.

Just four months after his surgery, he made a touching visit back to Old Trafford to watch United play against Wolves.
