Liverpool star becomes top transfer target for Champions League club
A big European club has started talks with Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window.
After a tough Premier League season where Liverpool finished fifth, they’re expected to be busy in the transfer market, just like in 2025 when they spent nearly £450 million on players like Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz.
Last summer, Liverpool saw some important players leave, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz.
On May 29, it was reported that defender Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool when his contract ends this summer. Although talks about a new deal took place, they couldn’t agree. Konate, who’s on France’s World Cup team, will be moving on.
Liverpool legends Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson have also played their last games for the club, hinting at a busy summer for the team.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano says midfielder Curtis Jones, who came up through Liverpool’s youth system, might also look to leave. Since new coach Arne Slot arrived in 2024, Jones has dropped behind players like Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Florian Wirtz in the lineup.
Jones, 25, appeared in 34 Premier League games last season with one goal and two assists but only started 18 matches.
Romano shared: “Inter are still working on signing Curtis Jones. He was a top target in January and remains high on Inter’s list for midfielders. Jones is open to moving, and talks are ongoing. The €20 million offer isn’t quite enough yet, but the deal is still happening.”
Inter, coached by former defender Cristian Chivu, had a great 2025/26 season, winning both Serie A and the Coppa Italia. If Jones joins, he’ll compete for a spot with players like Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi, Petar Sucic, and Piotr Zielinski.
Back in February, Slot explained why Jones hasn’t played much but praised him as a “very good player.” He said, “Jones would play more if he was in a different position. We’ve had no issues in that area, though, so sometimes we need him elsewhere, and he’s done well.”
Jones has also said he’s happy to play wherever the team needs him. Sometimes last season, he even played right-back. He shared, “I’m a central midfielder and want to score and assist, but if the manager needs me in other positions, like centre-back, full-back, or even striker, I’ll give it my best.”
