Mo Salah is thinking about making a big change and staying at Liverpool after Arne Slot got fired.

Mohamed Salah’s teammate from Egypt has hinted that the star player might make a surprising return to Liverpool just days after leaving the club.

After the last game of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Liverpool legend Salah ended his time at Anfield by mutual agreement. He left after nine amazing years, becoming the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history with 257 goals in all competitions.

Salah had signed a two-year contract extension last April but decided to leave a year early, with reports suggesting he had a falling out with former manager Arne Slot. However, just days after the season ended, Slot was sacked, raising questions about whether this might change Salah’s decision to leave.

Since leaving Liverpool, Salah hasn’t announced his next club and is focusing on playing for Egypt in the 2026 World Cup in North America. Before Egypt’s first match against Belgium in Seattle, goalkeeper and close friend Ahmed El-Shenawy hinted that Salah might come back to Liverpool.

“He spent a long time there, got used to the club, gave everything, shared many happy moments, and won many trophies,” El-Shenawy told Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport.
“Leaving would naturally affect him. But who knows? Maybe things could change, and he might stay. He told me, ‘Honestly, I still don’t know.’ So, really, no one knows where he’ll go yet.”

This news came as a shock to Liverpool fans who already said a heartfelt goodbye to Salah but could see him return soon with new manager Andoni Iraola in charge.

Shortly after, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, released a statement about his client’s future. “Mohamed is doing perfectly fine, and neither he nor I like to discuss private plans with people not involved,” he wrote on X. “People may ask, but we only give polite answers and that’s it.”

El-Shenawy’s words add fuel to rumors that Salah’s choice to leave was influenced by his tough relationship with former manager Slot. Under Slot, Salah openly showed frustration, especially after a heated interview following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United in December.

When asked if Salah would have stayed if Slot had left earlier, former teammate Dejan Lovren didn’t hesitate. “Yes, he would have stayed 100%. I know it. The timing was just bad. Only a fool would say we don’t need him anymore.”

Lovren added, “Saying you don’t need Mohamed Salah at Liverpool when he can still play at the top level for two or three years is hard to understand.”

He also shared thoughts on Salah’s relationship with Slot: “I don’t think it was about the club or management, just the coach. They didn’t get along well. With Klopp, their relationship was really good—they trusted and supported each other a lot, and Salah gave everything on the pitch. But with Slot, it was the opposite.”
