Bruno Fernandes has shared a fun little secret about how he gets ready for training and matches—he has his football boots steam-pressed, something no other Manchester United player does.

The Portuguese star has been shining in Michael Carrick’s team, having an amazing season that earned him the PFA Player of the Year award and several other honors.

So far this season, Fernandes has scored four goals and made one assist in just four games. He’s hoping to keep that momentum going when United take on Manchester City in the big Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon.

His special boot routine might be part of the reason for his success.

Fernandes opened up to social media creator Niko Omilana about why he has his boots steamed before every match.

“I need them warm,” he said on Sky Sports. “It’s too cold outside. The boots get softer that way, and I just like them warm.”

When asked if the steamed boots help him play better, Fernandes was humble and said it’s more about comfort and helping him feel relaxed.

“I wouldn’t say it makes me play better, but it definitely helps me feel comfortable,” he added.

Looking ahead, Fernandes will be a key player when United face City again in the Premier League on Sunday. However, he might get a rare break midweek.

At 32, he’s played every minute so far this season, including the full match in their recent Champions League win over Sabah. But he could rest during the upcoming Carabao Cup game against Brighton.

Michael Carrick talked about how important Fernandes is but also said the team needs to manage his playing time carefully during this tough season.

“We only had five subs! So we had to be careful about decisions,” Carrick said. “Bruno has played a lot, but we’re working on using the whole squad in different ways.”
