Coco Gauff opens up about missing loved ones who suddenly appear asking for US Open tickets
Coco Gauff recently replied to an Instagram post by her mom, Candi, who called out old friends and family suddenly asking for US Open tickets.
Candi shared a message on Instagram on Thursday, addressing “family and friends” who wanted guest tickets to see Coco play in the US.
Coco, now 22, won the 2023 US Open and then grabbed her second Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in 2025. With all that success, more people who hadn’t been around much started reaching out.
Candi wrote: “Sorry to be so direct, but this needed to be said. I know you’re excited about Coco playing in the US Open—me too! But all her guest tickets are already spoken for. I can’t get you any tickets, so please make sure to buy your own. Also, don’t ask for more than two tickets. Coco is an adult now and has her own friends she’s giving tickets to. Thanks for supporting her!”
At a press event before the US Open, Coco opened up about her mom’s post. Ranked 4th in the world, Coco is aiming for her third Grand Slam title. She’s had a great season so far with a 40-13 record, reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals and recently winning the Cincinnati Open.
Coco said, “That message was needed. It was meant for a few family and friends. Honestly, people just pop up out of nowhere. They don’t say ‘Congrats’ or ‘Happy Birthday,’ but then suddenly want 8 tickets to my match in my box! We do get tickets, but they’re for selling the event, not for giving to everyone.”
She added, “Last year, my mom and dad were stressed trying to handle all the requests. If we have tickets, we try to share, but it was overwhelming. Many people don’t even have my number—they contact my family or team instead.”
Coco also mentioned that something someone said this year pushed her mom to make the post. “New York and Wimbledon are the events everyone wants to come to. We do our best, but some requests are really out there.”
Coco’s first match at this US Open is on Monday at 4pm BST against Zeynep Sonmez from Turkey, ranked 52nd. She’s ready to defend her US Open title with full focus.
