Erling Haaland surprises reporter with his World Cup prediction after Norway beats Senegal
Norway celebrates their World Cup win over Senegal with a fun viral ‘Viking row’ dance
Erling Haaland seems to have picked up a page from Pep Guardiola’s playbook when it comes to mind games for the World Cup. He shared his thoughts ahead of Norway’s big match against France.
Norway secured their spot in the knockout stages after a thrilling 3-2 win over Senegal on Monday. Haaland scored twice in that game, helping Stale Solbakken’s team sit second in Group I, just behind France, after winning their first two matches.
Their final group game against Les Bleus is set for June 26 (Friday). When asked about it during a post-match interview with Fox Sports, Haaland said, “I don’t really care much about that game now. We’re through. We’re through. They’ll probably beat us, and maybe even win the whole tournament.”
You could see the Fox Sports reporter was surprised by his honesty, saying, “Wow, that’s quite a statement,” before congratulating him.
Haaland’s been having an amazing World Cup so far. Lionel Messi leads the scoring with five goals in two games, while Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are just behind with four goals each.
“I’m really enjoying it,” the Manchester City striker said after the match. “I’ve loved playing for Norway since my debut in 2019.”
After their win against Senegal, Haaland and the team did the viral ‘Viking row’ celebration. Everyone, including coach Stale Solbakken, sat on the pitch at MetLife Stadium pretending to row a boat.
You can see captain Martin Odegaard banging a drum twice with a mallet, while the team and fans joined in, rowing together to the beat. It’s a fun twist on Iceland’s famous “Viking Clap” from Euro 2016, and the rhythm really brought the whole celebration alive.
