Felix Nmecha shared why players from Germany and Curacao came together in a circle in the middle of the field right after Sunday’s World Cup match at Houston Stadium.

Germany had an amazing start to their World Cup run, with goals from Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz (2), Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, and Deniz Undav helping them finish with a big 7-1 win over Curacao.

For a short time, Curacao, the smallest country ever to make it to the tournament, got hopeful when Livano Comenencia scored to tie the game in the 21st minute.

But Germany, the strong favorites, were just too powerful. Even so, after the final whistle in Texas, there was a lot of respect shown. Jonathan Tah and goal scorer Nmecha quickly went over to the Curacao players, and together, they formed a circle.

When asked why they stood in a circle with the Curacao players, former Manchester City forward Nmecha said, “During the game, we are opponents, but after the game, we are all Christians, we are all brothers.”

He added, “We just said a little prayer together because we are very thankful. The win is great for us, but we all believe Jesus is honored through the game. That’s why we prayed together.”

Nmecha often talks about how important faith is to him. On his Instagram, he says: “Football is my passion, Jesus is my foundation.”

After playing for the German national team for the first time in 2023, he said, “It’s a huge honor and blessing to be called up. This is a moment I will never forget, and I give all the glory to Jesus.”

The 27-year-old also points to himself and then to heaven when he scores. “I want to show that Jesus died for my sins and washed them away,” he told Wolfsburg’s YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Germany’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer may have broken FIFA’s kit rules during Sunday’s match.

The 40-year-old, who usually wears short sleeves, was given a long-sleeved shirt before the game. Neuer decided to cut the sleeves off just before kickoff.

But this could get him in trouble because FIFA’s rules say any visible undergarments must be the same main color as the shirt and can’t show any team logos, brand marks, or decorations.
