FIA calls an important meeting about worries that might impact the Miami Grand Prix
The FIA has planned a meeting after qualifying because they’re worried that bad weather might affect the Miami Grand Prix. They want to talk about how to handle Sunday’s race, as thunderstorms could cause problems.
Stormy weather and heavy rain have been a worry leading up to the race, since they can be dangerous for the drivers and their cars. So, the FIA will consider their options once qualifying on Saturday is done.
According to BBC Sport, the race time might change because of the weather. Right now, the race is set to start at 4:00 PM local time.
It’s possible that nothing will need to change, but the schedule could shift if the weather gets worse. Earlier forecasts said thunderstorms wouldn’t arrive at the Miami track until Monday, but now it looks like they might come during the race.
Rules for outdoor sports and events say there must be at least a 30-minute wait after lightning before the event can start again. Workers at the track have to stop the race if lightning is near for safety reasons. Fans would need to find shelter, and even medical helicopters would have to stop flying.
If bad weather hits during the race, they would show a red flag, meaning the race stops and all cars go back to the pit lane until it’s safe to continue.
The FIA shared earlier this week that they already have a plan ready if the weather causes problems. An FIA spokesperson told RacingNews365, “We’re watching the weather closely. We faced something similar last year in Miami and have a backup plan to keep things running smoothly if needed.”
The final decisions will be made after talks between race officials, weather experts, and safety teams at the circuit.
