Fred Vasseur shares the great Lewis Hamilton news we’ve all been waiting for before Silverstone!
Lewis Hamilton isn’t going anywhere! That’s the great news Ferrari’s team boss Fred Vasseur just shared, and it’s exactly what we all wanted to hear.
Just a year ago, it seemed like Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari might be his last. Many thought he might retire after his home race at Silverstone, especially with all the retirement rumors floating around. Last season, finishing fourth at Silverstone was one of his better results—he barely missed the podium, thanks to a surprise standout performance by Nico Hulkenberg.
But this year, Lewis is back in top form, grabbing podiums and winning races like before. The retirement talks have quieted down completely. In fact, Fred Vasseur recently confirmed that Hamilton will be racing with Ferrari next year, as the team pushes hard to win championships.
Lewis has also been enjoying the spotlight off the track, especially with his new partner, Kim Kardashian. His passion for racing seems stronger than ever. In a recent interview, Vasseur said that moving from Mercedes to Ferrari was a bigger challenge for Lewis than for others like Sainz, who have switched teams more often. Now that Lewis feels at home with the team, he’s signed a contract extension through 2027.
“Last year, I didn’t realize just how big the change was for Lewis,” Vasseur said. “Everything was new to him. But now he knows the team and how we work, and the good results have helped him find a great rhythm.”
When asked if Hamilton would stay through 2027, Vasseur simply said “yes.” Lewis even has a one-year extension option beyond that, so he’s definitely committed for the foreseeable future.
Vasseur added, “It’s not about making big announcements. It’s about having the right mindset, the right tools, and the right team. We’re focused and moving in the right direction.”
This news was supposed to be revealed at Ferrari’s home race in Monza, but Vasseur’s slip-up gave it away early!
As for Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s star driver also extended his contract until 2030. Vasseur acknowledged that Leclerc has faced some struggles this season, especially after his risky move at the Barcelona Grand Prix where the team had to step in. But the team is working hard to help him get back on track.
“I’m close to Charles and trying to figure out how to support him,” said Vasseur. “It’s not about speed—he’s been fighting for pole positions. He just needs to put everything together over a few laps, get used to the new car, the updates, the brakes, and stay calm. I’m not worried at all because he has a whole team behind him.”
