Golfer’s caddie quits during tournament after a tough argument, with video showing what happened

Caddies play a big role in helping golfers by carrying their bags, managing clubs, and even helping with some course tasks. Over time, they’ve become even more important because they give golfers advice and smart tips to do better.

Recently, something surprising happened at a PGA Tour event. During a round at the Biltmore Championship in Asheville, North Carolina, a golfer’s caddie quit right on the course after a heated argument. Video shows Cliff Ellis, caddie to Argentine golfer Alejandro Tosti, taking off his bib and walking away after a tense talk with Tosti. Ellis had been working with Tosti on and off for years, but it seemed he finally reached his limit.

After Ellis left, Tosti asked a fan nearby to carry his bag for the rest of the round. He finished with a score of 71, one over par for the tournament, and ended up missing the cut for the next round. This year hasn’t been easy for Tosti either—he’s only made the cut in 4 out of 21 tournaments and hasn’t finished in the top 25 yet.

When asked about what happened, Tosti replied with a joke, saying, “He couldn’t keep up with eight consecutive pars,” followed by some laughing emojis, but didn’t explain what caused the argument.

This isn’t the first time Tosti has had issues with a caddie. In 2023, he reportedly shouted insults at his caddie Ray Yoel during a tournament. He also got in trouble at the Albertsons Boise Open that year and was removed after the first round for disciplinary reasons.
