Jannik Sinner is still early in his tennis journey, but he hopes that by the time he retires, people will talk about him alongside greats like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The Italian has had a great start to 2026, winning three big Masters 1000 titles at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo.

With those three titles plus his win in Paris last year, Sinner has won four Masters 1000 tournaments in a row. Now, it’s official that the 24-year-old will play in the Madrid Open, and there’s a good chance he could make history there—especially since Carlos Alcaraz had to pull out because of injury.

This could be the perfect moment for Sinner to do something special in Madrid that even Federer and Djokovic never managed. If he wins the Madrid Open, he would become the first player ever to win five Masters 1000 titles in a row.

Sinner might feel confident with Alcaraz out, but another strong player, Djokovic, won’t be there either because he doesn’t feel ready to compete physically. Next week, Madrid will welcome the top tennis stars, and fans hope to see something historic happen.

Winning in Madrid would also be great practice for Sinner ahead of Roland Garros in late May. He’s aiming to win all four Grand Slam titles, and the French Open is the only one missing from his collection. He’s had trouble beating Alcaraz on clay courts before, so a win in Madrid—close to Alcaraz’s home turf—could boost his confidence and give him an edge going into the French Open next month.
