Jannik Sinner leaves French Open due to a health issue during the match
Jannik Sinner has been knocked out of the French Open after a worrying moment during his second-round match.
The 2026 tennis season is in full swing, and the French Open is happening now at Roland Garros. After Carlos Alcaraz had to pull out because of a right wrist injury, which also will keep him out of Wimbledon, Sinner, the world No.1, was the favorite to win.
In his first match, the Italian showed why he was top seed by easily beating France’s Clement Tabur 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the second round.
But when he started his second-round match against Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo, it quickly became clear that something was wrong. Even though Sinner was ahead by two sets and 5-1, he suddenly began to struggle and lost 18 points in a row before leaving the court during a game.
He did come back to play, but only won two more games before losing 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 to world No. 56 Cerundolo, which knocked him out of the tournament.
What worried people most wasn’t the loss itself. Sinner was seen grabbing his leg and hip when serving late in the match and even sat down on the side of the court to rest. When the umpire checked on him, he said, “I don’t feel well, I feel like I’m going to throw up.”
Sinner got a quick medical check but didn’t take a full medical timeout. He returned to the court but lost more points quickly.
Things got tougher as he left for a break before the fourth set and took some tablets when it started again. He struggled with cramps, was seen hobbling, and even drank a fizzy drink during breaks.
Even though he tried to cool down before the final set, his health problems were too much, and he was knocked out in what’s been called the biggest upset of the year so far.
This is Sinner’s earliest exit from a Grand Slam in exactly three years and ends his amazing 30-match winning streak.
