LIV Golf is “getting ready for bankruptcy” as they share urgent plans before the season ends.

LIV Golf is said to be getting ready for a possible bankruptcy filing in the U.S. after losing support from the Saudi Public Investment Fund. There are only five individual and team championship events left in the 2026 LIV Golf season, which will end in August.

After the 2026 season wraps up, the future of LIV Golf, which competes with the PGA Tour, is uncertain. This comes after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced it will stop its multi-million-pound funding, just five years after LIV Golf started.

In a statement soon after the announcement, LIV said it’s trying to “secure long-term financial partners” to keep the league going despite the funding cut. But now, it looks like league leaders might file for bankruptcy in the U.S., possibly leading to the league closing once the season ends in a few months.

According to Bloomberg, LIV’s management and advisors are working on two plans: finding new investors and preparing for a backup plan that includes Chapter 11 bankruptcy if no new funds come in. People close to the situation say bankruptcy is a “last resort,” but the prep work has already begun.

Part of these plans includes possibly moving LIV Golf’s headquarters from London and Riyadh to the U.S. to benefit from American bankruptcy laws.

Star players like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Cameron Smith are still signed with LIV Golf and are likely thinking about their next moves with all the rumors. If LIV does go bankrupt and shuts down, their contracts would end, opening the door for them to return to the PGA Tour.

Still, it’s unclear who would come back to the PGA Tour. DeChambeau, for example, is exploring different options, including focusing full-time on content creation. On The Katie Miller Podcast, he said, “I’m in that weird space right now, I don’t know what to do, either: Content creation or professional golf. I don’t know what to do right now.”
