Liverpool fans tease Man City fans with a fierce chant you won’t hear on Sky Sports

Liverpool fans gave Manchester City a tough welcome at Anfield, using a chant about the recent decision on the 115 charges against City. In a tricky situation for City, their first match after being found guilty of most of the charges by the Premier League in February 2023 was against their big rivals, Liverpool.

As you might expect, Liverpool supporters were keen to remind City’s players and fans about the verdict. One chant caught everyone’s attention. Since Manchester City’s rule breaches affected Liverpool a lot, their fans didn’t hold back their frustration during the game.

If City’s results during the charged period had been wiped, Liverpool would have won two more titles in 2018-19 and 2021-22 under their former boss Jurgen Klopp. That made the fans even more fired up, with many bringing banners and singing chants targeting City and the 115 charges.

One popular chant went like this: “You haven’t won a trophy since 1976.” This was a dig at City, meaning that if their recent wins don’t count, their last major trophy would be the 1976 League Cup.

Along with the chants, fans booed throughout the game and sang “Going down, going down,” hinting at the possible punishments City might face after the verdict. Right now, it’s still unclear what exactly will happen to City after being found guilty of almost all the charges.

Manchester City insists they did nothing wrong and are appealing the decision. This appeal means we might not hear more until early next year. By Premier League rules, the appeal process has to finish within 12 weeks after it starts, so the panel should have a verdict by December 25.

The decision then has to be shared publicly within 30 days. But since things slow down during Christmas and New Year, the final verdict might come as late as February 8.

If City’s guilty verdict stays, they could face serious punishments like big fines, losing points, transfer bans, or even being moved down a league or kicked out of the Premier League.
