Liverpool’s new manager is ‘confirmed’ as Fabrizio Romano reveals big news following Arne Slot’s sacking.

Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have already chosen who will take over from Arne Slot at Anfield. Romano shared the news that Liverpool decided to part ways with Slot on Saturday, after weeks of talk about his future.

Until the end of the season, Liverpool reporters believed Slot still had the full support of the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group. They thought some reasons explained why the team didn’t do as well, even after a record-breaking transfer window last summer.

Still, the club decided to say goodbye to the title-winning manager. Former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is now the favorite to become the new manager. Romano says Liverpool have made up their minds, and Iraola’s appointment should be officially announced soon.

On X, Romano wrote: “The talks will move quickly to finish this, but Liverpool’s decision is clear. Iraola will be the next manager.”

Other possible candidates like Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness and Lens’s Pierre Sage were mentioned by The Athletic, but it looks like Iraola will be the one leading Liverpool next season.

Iraola helped Bournemouth qualify for the Europa League in his last season and left to look for a new challenge. He was also linked with jobs at Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool’s owners FSG shared a statement saying they didn’t take the decision to part ways with Slot lightly. They thanked him for leading Liverpool to their 20th league title and for how he handled the tough time after the passing of Diogo Jota last summer.

Their full statement said: “This was a really hard decision for us. Arne’s time at Liverpool was important, successful, and full of dedication. We’re very grateful for everything he achieved, especially since he led us to the Premier League title in his first season.

“From the start, it was clear Arne doesn’t just take responsibility—he embraces it. This showed when he became head coach, won the title, and faced many challenges during the season.

“At the same time, we agreed that for the club to keep moving forward, a change was needed. This decision wasn’t easy, and it doesn’t lessen the respect we have for Arne or his talents.

“We want to thank Arne, who will always be a big part of Liverpool’s history as the coach who won our 20th league title. He also showed great kindness and strength during the very hard time after losing Diogo.

“We wish him all the best in his future coaching journey, knowing his legacy here is strong and will be remembered for years to come.

“Ultimately, we believe a new direction is what the team needs. Arne leaves with our thanks, a Premier League title, and the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcome back at Anfield.”
