Manchester United are showing strong interest in one of the top players from this summer’s World Cup, according to reports. The club is stepping up its efforts to sign the talented midfielder, who’s been in great form.

This summer, United are looking to bring in at least two new midfielders. Along with Brazil’s Ederson, who is close to joining from Atalanta for £35 million, several other names are being talked about. West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes is still a possible target, but Spurs seem to be getting closer to signing the £85 million-rated player.

Actually, United are ready to pay £65 million upfront, with more money to come in bonuses and performance rewards, says TEAMtalk. They also report that the deal is moving quickly.

So, who else could they go for? Right after news about Fernandes, reports say United are also chasing Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha. Nmecha has impressed Germany with his World Cup performances and is being watched by many clubs, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, and his old club Manchester City, who let him go in 2021.

It looks like United are working harder to sign the 25-year-old, according to Sky’s Patrick Berger. Christopher Vivell, United’s director of recruitment, is reportedly talking closely with Nmecha’s team.

“A move to the Premier League is seen as a real possibility in the future. But for now, Nmecha is happy at Dortmund and focused on the World Cup with Germany,” Berger added.

Nmecha has lots of clubs interested, which gives Borussia Dortmund a strong position in talks. The German club has put a €100 million (£86m) price on the former Wolfsburg player, according to German media Kicker.

After Germany beat Ivory Coast last week, Gary Neville praised Nmecha a lot. Even though he spent 13 years with City, he never played in the Premier League for them. “The more he plays like he did the other night, the more expensive he’ll get,” Neville told ITV.

“But right now, Manchester United are hearing a £100 million price for the West Ham player Fernandes, so they’ll need to look around the tournament and parts of Europe. Nmecha looked fantastic the other night; he seemed to have everything.”
