Manchester United sets sights on new top transfer target after missing out on Mateus Fernandes
Manchester United have already picked their top signing after Mateus Fernandes decided not to join Old Trafford.
The Premier League transfer window has only been open for two weeks, but plenty of clubs have been busy making moves before pre-season starts.
United were one of the first to get a deal done this summer, signing Ederson from Atalanta for £35 million to help rebuild their midfield after Casemiro left.
They were also chasing a move for West Ham’s Fernandes, who has been wanted by many clubs across Europe. However, Fernandes chose to join Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur instead, in a deal worth £85 million guaranteed.
Now that they’ve missed out on Fernandes, United are looking at other options. There are several players linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, but one player really stands out as their main target: West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville.
According to Sky Sports, the Dutch winger is United’s top choice for the left wing after some impressive performances at the World Cup. Even though the Netherlands were knocked out in a tough penalty shootout against Morocco, Summerville shined, scoring against Japan in his first game.
With West Ham relegated to the Championship last season, it’s not clear if Summerville will stay, and several Premier League clubs have shown interest.
Alongside Summerville, Morgan Rogers is another key target for United, but Aston Villa have made it clear they don’t want to sell him and value him at over £100 million.
Other players under consideration are Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and Lille’s Mathias Fernandes-Pardo.
Before United can sign Summerville or any other attacker, they need to decide what to do with Marcus Rashford, who will soon return to training after playing for England in the World Cup.
Rashford had a strong season on loan at Barcelona last year, scoring 14 goals and assisting 14 in 49 games across all competitions.
Right now, Rashford wants to go back to Barcelona, but the Spanish club only wants him on loan, not a permanent transfer, likely because they just signed Anthony Gordon for nearly £70 million.
With only two years left on Rashford’s contract, United aren’t interested in a loan deal. Since other clubs are also interested in him, Rashford’s future at United is still up in the air.
