Mohamed Salah is now officially a free agent since his contract with Liverpool has ended, and many are curious about where he’ll head next. In March, Salah shared a heartfelt video saying goodbye to Liverpool after an amazing nine years at Anfield.

At 34, Salah has made a huge mark as one of the best wingers in Premier League history, scoring an incredible 195 goals and setting up 93 assists in 328 games. However, things got a bit rocky at the end of his time with Liverpool because of his issues with coach Arne Slot. Salah criticized Slot’s tactics and felt let down by the club.

Slot was eventually fired and replaced by Andoni Iraola in late May, but by then, Salah had already decided to move on. Since then, rumors have linked him to Turkish giants Fenerbahce and also to the Saudi Pro League, where he almost joined Al-Ittihad in a record deal last year.

A move to Saudi Arabia seems likely, and journalist Sacha Tavolieri says the club Al-Ahli is pushing to sign Salah to replace Riyad Mahrez, who recently left. Al-Ahli sees Salah as the perfect fit, especially since Mahrez scored 37 goals and made 50 assists in 122 games after joining from Manchester City in 2023. They’ve paid £12.4 million to release Mahrez, meaning they can offer Salah a big salary.

Right now, Salah is playing in the World Cup with Egypt. He’s been amazing, scoring one goal and making two assists in his first three matches. This helped Egypt finish second in Group G behind Belgium. Egypt will face Australia in the last 32 on Friday—another chance for Salah to make history. Egypt has never gone past the round of 16 in the World Cup.

Salah’s strong performances could open even more doors for him. The president of Al-Ahli, Khaled Al-Eissa, has already shown interest, saying Saudi Arabia is a top destination for players thanks to the Crown Prince’s vision. “We want international stars, and Salah is at the top of our list. We hope to have him in Saudi Arabia when the time is right,” Al-Eissa shared.

So, once Salah’s World Cup journey ends, a move to Saudi Arabia could happen — and it would be exciting news for everyone at Al-Ahli!
