Nineteen players, including six seeded ones, have now pulled out before the first round of Wimbledon.
A total of 19 players have now pulled out of Wimbledon just weeks, days, or even hours before their first round matches. The latest to miss out is Emma Raducanu, who announced on Sunday that she has a lower leg stress fracture.
There had been worries about the 2021 US Open winner’s fitness after she didn’t show up for a practice session on Wednesday and skipped her press conferences. On Sunday, she said she planned to play at Wimbledon after a one-hour practice, but by that evening, it was confirmed she wouldn’t compete.
Emma explained that what started as a small ache in her leg turned into a stress fracture, and her doctors advised her not to play. She was set to face Antonia Ruzic in the first round, but lucky loser Darja Semenistaja has now taken her place.
Emma joins 18 other players who had to withdraw from Wimbledon before playing a match this year. Fellow Brit Jack Draper also pulled out just before his first match because of an arm injury. One of the biggest names to withdraw was world number two Carlos Alcaraz, who left last month with a wrist injury.
Other players who withdrew include 11th seed Lorenzo Musetti, who got a thigh injury at the Italian Open, and world number 20 Valentin Vacherot, who has a foot stress fracture. Former world number four Holger Rune is still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, and Italy’s Mattia Bellucci withdrew after making it into the main draw.
On the women’s side, Emma isn’t the only British player missing out at Wimbledon this year. Sonay Kartal, who made it to the fourth round last year and reached as high as 44th in the rankings, has had a tough 2026 season with injuries and is healing from a lower back problem. Victoria Mboko, who was supposed to be the 10th seed, hurt her knee while playing doubles at Eastbourne with Serena Williams. She couldn’t finish that tournament and had to skip Wimbledon too.
American Hailey Baptiste, another seeded player, is also out with a knee injury. Meanwhile, 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova is serving a four-year ban, which she is appealing, because of anti-doping violations.
Here’s a quick look at the players who have withdrawn from Wimbledon 2026 in both men’s and women’s singles.
