Pep Guardiola talks about the rumors that he might leave Manchester City after they lost the Premier League title.
Pep Guardiola has finally spoken out about the rumors that he might leave Manchester City at the end of the season after missing out on the Premier League title.
On Tuesday night, City’s hopes of winning the Premier League were dashed after they drew 1-1 with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. This result meant Arsenal won the title for the first time in 22 years, with one game still to go.
For City fans, though, the draw wasn’t the only bad news. Reports have come out that Guardiola, the club’s legendary manager, could be leaving when the season ends. There has been talk about his future for weeks, and Guardiola has always said he still has one year left on his contract.
Now, after missing out on the title, Guardiola seems to be thinking seriously about his next steps. He told Sky Sports, “From my experience, talking about this kind of thing during the season is not good. The first person I need to talk to is my chairman. When the season ends, we will sit down, have a conversation, and then decide what to do.”
When asked if leaving is a real option, he said, “I still have one year left on my contract. I can’t say anything now because I need to talk to my chairman, players, and staff. Right now, my only focus is helping the team finish the season strong, whether it’s the FA Cup, Champions League, or Premier League.”
About how he feels now, Guardiola added, “I’m the happiest man to be part of this club. It’s an amazing place. Of course, the season didn’t go as we wanted, but I know the fans will keep supporting us until the last game because they’ve been great all season.”
Though Guardiola hasn’t officially confirmed he will leave, many expect an announcement soon. Reports say former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is the favorite to take over. Maresca reportedly has a verbal agreement and will sign a three-year deal to manage City after Guardiola’s departure.
