Piers Morgan makes a strong statement as VAR helps Arsenal beat West Ham
Arsenal grabbed a 1-0 win over West Ham on Sunday afternoon, making fans like Piers Morgan believe the Gunners are now Premier League champions. Mikel Arteta’s team is five points ahead of rivals Manchester City, with only two games left to play. City still have three matches remaining.
The Gunners nearly gave up the win when West Ham scored in stoppage time, but the referee, Chris Kavanagh, ruled the goal out. David Raya was fouled in the penalty area during a corner, and VAR confirmed the decision to cancel the goal.
West Ham’s boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, wasn’t happy about the call. His team is fighting to avoid relegation and remain just a point behind Tottenham Hotspur. Santo’s main complaint is the inconsistency in how blocking and pushing during set pieces are handled—something Arsenal has taken advantage of this season under Arteta.
Even though West Ham felt hard done by, Arsenal fans couldn’t care less — they’re closer than ever to their first Premier League title in 22 years. One famous supporter, Piers Morgan, shared his thoughts on social media: “Not his best game tactically (the Rice to RB decision was bonkers and threw us off for 25 mins), but his biggest and most important win as Arsenal manager. This was the day @m8arteta almost certainly won us our first League title in 22 years. So happy for him.”
Arsenal still have two games to go: at home to Burnley and then against Crystal Palace on the last day. They’ll probably need to win both to seal the title. While it looks likely on paper, nothing is guaranteed in football, so Morgan’s claim that Arsenal have already ‘won’ the title is a bit bold!
