Red Bull calls their ‘ideal’ F1 2027 line-up as ‘good drivers’ reach out about seats
Red Bull team boss Laurent Mekies recently shared who he hopes will be part of his team in 2027, after getting interest from several strong drivers.
With just one race left before Formula One’s long four-week summer break, fans won’t see any on-track action for a while. But that doesn’t mean things will be quiet. After the Hungarian Grand Prix, everyone – fans, experts, and teams – will start looking ahead to the 2027 season.
More than half of the current 22 drivers don’t have contracts beyond this year, so many expect the 2027 lineup to look quite different, with some big names moving around.
The biggest question is around four-time world champion Max Verstappen. Lately, there have been rumors about him possibly switching teams or even retiring early. Because of this, several drivers, including Oscar Piastri and George Russell, have been mentioned as possible replacements if Max leaves.
But Mekies is still confident Red Bull can keep their star driver. He also said both the team and Verstappen have received interest from other teams.
“It goes both ways,” Mekies told Sky Sports. “It’s normal. Max is the best driver, so everyone wants him. And top teams naturally get calls from good drivers too.”
Red Bull plans to bring new upgrades after the summer break to help catch up with the leaders this season. Mekies believes that if the car improves, they can keep Verstappen and rising star Isack Hadjar for a long time.
He said, “Is it a distraction? Not really. Our main goal is to make the car as fast as possible so we can keep the best driver and grow Isack alongside Max. That’s the perfect team for us.”
Right now, Verstappen is seventh in the standings, 113 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli. But with two podium finishes in the last three races, Max might be feeling positive about staying with Red Bull as they head into this important summer break.
