Ruben Amorim is in the mix for a surprising manager job just months after leaving Man Utd.

Ruben Amorim, who used to be the head coach at Manchester United, is one of the top candidates to become the next Premier League manager, just five months after he was let go. Amorim was sacked in January after 14 months in charge, during which Manchester United had their worst-ever Premier League finish at 15th place and lost the 2025 Europa League final to Spurs.

He was dismissed less than a day after United drew 1-1 with Leeds United on January 4. After that game, he openly criticized some senior club officials. At that time, United was sitting sixth in the Premier League.

Now, five months later, Amorim’s tough time at the club feels like a distant memory. His successor, Michael Carrick, led the team to finish third in the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League in the 2025/26 season.

After leaving United, Amorim was linked to jobs in Portugal, including a chance to manage Benfica because of his history there as a player. But that’s no longer an option since Marco Silva, previously Fulham’s head coach, has taken over at Benfica, and Jose Mourinho is about to become Real Madrid’s new manager.

Silva leaving Fulham could open the door for Amorim to return to English football. He is now one of the main contenders to become Fulham’s next manager, although Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna is the favorite.

According to talkSPORT, Amorim is priced at 4/1 to take the Fulham job, the same odds as Coventry City’s Frank Lampard. McKenna is favored at 4/7. Other candidates include Pierre Sage from Lens at 8/1, recently sacked Liverpool coach Arne Slot and former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, both at 12/1. Bodø/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen, who led the Norwegian team to the Champions League round of 16, is at 16/1, as are former Fulham player Scott Parker, USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, and ex-Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior.
