Two Premier League clubs are interested in Marc Cucurella after he reportedly asked to leave Chelsea.
Marc Cucurella is catching the eye of two Premier League clubs and some big European teams after telling Chelsea he wants to leave, according to reports.
Cucurella is getting ready for his first World Cup with Spain, but there’s been a lot of talk about his future at Chelsea. Even though he’s signed with the club until 2029, Mundo Deportivo says he’s already told Chelsea he doesn’t want to stay, even with his fellow Spaniard Xabi Alonso now in charge.
Chelsea seem ready to let him go if they get the right price. They think he’s worth between €40 million and €50 million, which they consider fair.
There are plenty of clubs interested in him. Barcelona, in particular, want to bring him back to Catalonia. Cucurella grew up in Barcelona’s academy but didn’t play for the first team—he only made it to their B team before moving on to Getafe.
His main goal is to return to Barcelona, and the manager, Hansi Flick, thinks very highly of him. But that move might only happen if Barcelona’s current left-back, Alejandro Balde, leaves this summer.
Other La Liga big names like Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have shown interest too. Bayern Munich was linked with him, but that deal seems unlikely now.
Cucurella might also stay in the Premier League, with both Manchester City and Manchester United watching him closely.
He’d prefer to wait until after the World Cup to decide where to go next, but if the right offer comes, he’s ready to move quickly.
He’s often talked about unfinished business at Barcelona and said it would be “hard to turn down.”
As he told the BBC, “Spain is always Spain. It’s where I grew up and you always think about going back. But I’d prefer to leave it for a few years down the line. I’m very happy here, and it’s a great life experience.”
When asked if he dreams of playing for Barcelona’s first team, he said, “It’s clear if that situation came up, it would be hard to say no. But I’d have to think carefully, not just about myself but also my family. Right now, I’m not focused on it. If it happens, we’ll see what’s best.”
Since moving from Brighton for £63 million, Cucurella has played 163 games for Chelsea and helped the team win the Conference League and Club World Cup.
