Man Utd ready to swoop in and sign £50m star who wants to leave Premier League rival
Manchester United are planning a surprise move to sign a player who reportedly wants to leave a Premier League rival.
On Saturday, Man Utd had a tough start to their Premier League season, losing 2-0 to newly promoted Hull City. Michael Carrick’s side put in a poor performance, even with new signings Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans playing alongside Bruno Fernandes. Hull City, who many had underestimated, outplayed and outran the Red Devils.
This loss marked Carrick’s third defeat in 18 Premier League games as manager, showing that United need to strengthen their squad before the September 1 deadline. One signing is already close to happening.
On Friday, it was announced that Man United have agreed a £70 million deal to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. The 22-year-old even started his medical at Old Trafford over the weekend.
But Carrick isn’t just focused on getting a third midfielder. He also wants a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw and a flexible attacking player. There’s an exciting update about the attacking position.
TEAMtalk reports that United are interested in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr. The Senegalese player missed Palace’s 2-0 loss to Everton due to injury and may be on his way out of Selhurst Park.
Galatasaray are currently leading the chase, having offered Sarr a contract and agreed with his agents. However, talks between the clubs have been tough. Palace want to keep their key player, who scored 18 goals in all competitions last season, and are asking for at least £50 million.
TEAMtalk also adds that Sarr is interested in leaving Palace, and United are ready to compete with Galatasaray for him. They see him as a Premier League-proven player who could make an immediate impact.
Carrick has plenty of options on the wings, including Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Shea Lacey on the right, and Matheus Cunha and Marcus Rashford on the left. All of these players can play in multiple positions. Sarr would add even more versatility, having played as both a right and left winger, attacking midfielder, and centre forward since joining Palace from Marseille two years ago.
Sarr is not only flexible but also offers pace, power, and a real goal threat. He’s scored 33 goals and provided 10 assists in 92 games for Palace, making him one of manager Oliver Glasner’s most valuable players.
Plus, he’s usually available, missing just 10 games for club and country and making 76 Premier League appearances over two seasons.
It’s easy to see why Carrick is interested in Sarr, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he joins Manchester United this summer.
