Jamie Vardy might be getting ready for an exciting return to the Premier League after news came out that he’ll be leaving Cremonese this summer.

Last May, Vardy scored his 200th goal for Leicester City in his 500th game, then decided to finish his time with the Foxes. He’s still one of Leicester’s all-time best players. But after Leicester was relegated to the Championship, Vardy moved to Italian Serie A team Cremonese before the 2025/26 season started.

He joined Cremonese on a free transfer in September 2025 and scored seven goals with three assists in 29 Serie A games, playing over 2,100 minutes. Unfortunately, Cremonese couldn’t avoid relegation, finishing with only 34 points from eight wins, 10 draws, and 20 losses, so they’re now going down to Serie B.

Vardy has an option to stay another year with Cremonese, but because of the relegation, he’s reportedly planning to leave. If that happens, several Premier League clubs are said to be interested in signing the veteran striker.

In the Premier League, Vardy scored 145 goals and made 50 assists in 342 games. He also holds the record as the oldest player to win the Golden Boot, which he did in 2016. While it’s not clear which clubs are interested, reports say Vardy is already in talks for a possible big comeback.

Right now, League One team Sheffield Wednesday are the favorites to sign Vardy as a free agent this summer. He actually played for them as a teenager but was released without making a pro appearance. If he doesn’t return to England, Dutch team Feyenoord is another club that has shown interest.

Vardy will turn 40 in January, so many think he might retire soon and enjoy life off the pitch. But in an interview this month, he said he has no plans to stop just yet. “As long as my legs feel good, I’ll keep going,” he said. “But when they don’t, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to stop.”

When he does retire, Vardy said he doesn’t want to stay involved in football. Instead, he wants to spend quality time with his wife and kids. “You sacrifice a lot as a footballer and miss out on many things. When I’m done, I want to make up for that and be there for my family,” he explained. “My kids love watching me play, and that’s a joy for them.”
