Anthony Joshua gave the coolest reply when someone said he might have ended Jake Paul’s career.
Anthony Joshua is focusing on upcoming fights with Kristian Prenga and Tyson Fury, but he’s not done with Jake Paul just yet. In their December 2025 fight, Joshua broke Paul’s jaw in two places during the sixth round. Paul, 29, had to get two titanium plates put in and lost some teeth. Since then, Paul’s professional record dropped to 12-2, and he hasn’t fought.
As the hype for the Prenga fight in Riyadh started this week, reporters asked Joshua what he thinks about Paul possibly never boxing again. Smiling, the former heavyweight champ said, “I think that’s what was expected when I took the fight, and I delivered.”
Last month, Paul told Ariel Helwani he would be getting scans on his injury and admitted he might be done with boxing. Still, he’s teasing a big fight with Sergio ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, promising a huge payday. “Canelo said he’s in on the phone, so we’re making it happen,” Paul said. “I have $200 million. That’s the next fight. Sign the contract, Canelo. Much respect to you. Let’s make the biggest fight in boxing happen.”
Joshua, who might have his own thoughts on that, hasn’t been in the ring since December either. Shortly after his fight with Paul, Joshua was in a car accident in Nigeria that sadly took the lives of two close friends and team members. Joshua was a passenger in the car when Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele passed away. Now, Joshua is set to return to the ring against Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25.
While he’s focused on Prenga, Joshua’s also looking forward to a huge Battle of Britain clash with Tyson Fury later this year. Fury came back from a 16-month break with a clear win over Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, with Joshua watching from ringside. Last month, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren and Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that the fight is locked in for late 2026, most likely in November, though the location hasn’t been announced yet.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting time in boxing!
