Chelsea and Newcastle chat about five players in a big transfer shuffle

Chelsea and Newcastle have started talks about FIVE players, making this summer’s transfer window very exciting.
The 2025/26 Premier League season just ended on Sunday, and both teams had tough seasons. They’re eager to strengthen their squads in the next transfer window.
Chelsea quickly hired Xabi Alonso as their new manager on a four-year deal starting July 1, while Newcastle kept faith in Eddie Howe, even after finishing 12th in the Premier League.
Now, it’s come out that the two clubs are discussing several players. Simon Phillips says Chelsea met with Newcastle’s leaders to talk about potential deals.
Chelsea want to bring back defender Lewis Hall, who had a great season at Newcastle. Hall played 45 games and many think he should have been in England’s World Cup squad. Chelsea see him as a great replacement for Marc Cucurella, who might leave this summer with Barcelona interested.
Chelsea also asked about Newcastle’s midfielders Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, and Newcastle is open to offers.
On the other hand, Newcastle are curious about two Chelsea players: Liam Delap and Josh Acheampong.
Delap was a target for Newcastle before he joined Chelsea after they paid his £30 million release clause. He scored 12 goals in 37 games at Ipswich Town but struggled to get a regular spot at Chelsea, scoring just once in 28 Premier League games.
Acheampong broke into Chelsea’s starting eleven under Enzo Maresca but got less playing time as the season went on, which made the 20-year-old unhappy. However, he won’t be sold outright, just possibly loaned out.
These talks happened while Newcastle officials were nearby for a final day meeting with Fulham, as the two owners have a good relationship.
The deals might include informal player swaps, with Chelsea possibly sending a few players to Newcastle in exchange for those they want.
Chelsea are also interested in Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade, who started strong but struggled after joining for a club record £69 million from Stuttgart. Woltemade scored 11 goals in 50 games, and Newcastle want to keep him.
