Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have made up his mind about retiring from Portugal after his falling out with Jorge Jesus.
Cristiano Ronaldo might be more likely to retire from international football after his clash with coach Jorge Jesus, says his sister.
Ronaldo was left on the bench during Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League win over Norway. Upset, he walked out of the team camp and later posted a long statement, criticizing Jesus for breaking promises.
Since then, Ronaldo has said he’s open to accepting any punishment and then returning to play. But his sister thinks his international career might be over.
After Ronaldo’s bold statement, many have wondered if he’ll play for Portugal again. Ronaldo accused Jesus of “breaking trust” but said he would accept his suspension and come back.
Jesus said there’s still a chance Ronaldo could return, but at a recent event in Lisbon, Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, felt it’s more likely he won’t play for Portugal again.
She said, “It’s more likely a no than a yes. Both of them are hurt. I’m speaking for my brother. This situation is stuck, so we’ll see what happens.” When asked if they might make up, she added, “I don’t know. It’s very hard to go back to normal after feeling betrayed.”
Elma also shared how sad she feels, saying people forget what Ronaldo has already done for Portugal and expect things to be different now. “It’s hard to watch my brother go through this. He doesn’t deserve it.”
Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, also said the team is not appreciating her son enough. “He could have left in a better way, but instead, he left through the back door,” she said.
Right now, Ronaldo’s punishment is still being decided. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) recently announced he is provisionally suspended while they investigate the situation.
Ronaldo has played 234 games for Portugal and scored 146 goals — an incredible record. Many are watching closely to see what happens next for the football star.
