John Fury said no to being best man at Tyson and Paris’ wedding vow renewal: ‘Never heard anything like it!’
Tyson Fury’s dad, John, said no when his son asked him to be best man at the renewal of his vows with his wife, Paris – and he was pretty honest about why he refused.
Tyson just made a big comeback last Saturday (April 11), beating Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a 16-month break. He’s also been trading words with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua, with talks of a big fight at Wembley later this year.
The day after the fight, season two of *At Home with the Furys* launched on Netflix, showing more about Tyson’s personal life and family. Tyson’s wife Paris and their seven kids are in the spotlight, along with his dad John and half-brother Tommy.
John shared some wise advice, even telling Tommy, “once you sign on the dotted line, there’s no turning back,” when they talked about possibly marrying Tommy’s fiancée, Molly-Mae Hague.
In a later episode, Tyson and Paris, married for 17 years, head to Nice, France to renew their vows with their kids for the third time since 2008. Before the trip, Tyson told his dad about it, and the no-nonsense 60-year-old wasn’t impressed: “Oh, Tyson, what’s this nonsense you keep coming out with?” he said. “What the heck for?” But Tyson said he just wanted to show his love again.
John kept going: “[I’ve] never heard of such rubbish.” Tyson then asked if his dad would be his best man. John replied, “Oh, Tyson, I don’t want to do it, honestly,” and added, “Unbelievable. You’re just wasting your money and time.” Even when Tyson said the flight to France was short, John said he wouldn’t get on the plane, even if it was just 10 minutes.
Later, Tyson opened up about his childhood, saying there wasn’t much emotion shown at home when he was growing up. “I didn’t have that growing up, none of that open love… at all,” he said, explaining why he wants his own family to be more affectionate.
Towards the end, Tyson video-called his dad while fishing with his four sons. John seemed a bit sorry for not joining the trip, saying he would have come if he “knew it was going to be like that.”
